Minnie Mouse’s Favorite Cat Toys: What a Picky Tuxedo Cat Actually Plays With

Minnie Mouse is a tough crowd. Most toys get a sniff, a look of disappointment, and then she walks away. I have bought a lot of cat toys since 2009, so here is the short list that actually gets used, and why.

1. The feather wand, every night

Nothing else comes close. A wand toy lets you mimic prey, and Minnie goes fully feral for it. Ten minutes before bed and she sleeps through the night instead of patrolling at 3am. Cheap, replaceable feathers, no batteries.

★★★★★ · Minnie Mouse approved

Feather Wand Teaser · About $10

The one toy in the house that gets used daily. Buy the multi-pack, the feathers do not last forever.

2. Cardboard scratcher lounge

Half toy, half furniture. Minnie scratches it, sleeps on it, and ambushes Luna from it. It saved the corner of my couch, which pays for it many times over.

L-Shape Cardboard Scratcher · About $20

Sprinkle catnip on it the first day and it becomes the most used object in the room.

3. Catnip crinkle pillows

Loud, cheap, and somehow irresistible. These get carried around the house at night like trophies. Buy the 3-pack, they vanish under furniture.

Catnip Crinkle Pillows 3-Pack · Under $10

Stocking-stuffer price, weeks of use. Loud enough that you will know exactly where your cat is at 2am.

4. Collapsible tunnel

With four cats this is ambush headquarters. Minnie sits at one end and waits. Everyone else eventually walks through. Drama follows.

★★★★★ · All four approved

Collapsible Cat Tunnel · About $15

Folds flat, holds up to four cats worth of abuse, and doubles as a nap spot.

What she ignored

  • Plush mice. Every single one. Stripes carries them, Minnie has never touched one.
  • Electronic butterfly spinner. Interested for a day, then it became furniture.
  • Ball track with the ball in a ring. Luna likes it. Minnie thinks it is beneath her.

The rule that made playtime work

End every session with a catch. If Minnie gets to “kill” the feather, she settles. If the toy just disappears into a drawer, she stays wound up. Same goes for laser toys, always finish with a real toy she can grab.
